On October 21，the signing ceremony of the Southern Institute of Industrial Technology (Shenzhen) (SIIT)  was held by SUSTech and the Bao’an District People’s Government of Shenzhen in the government building of Bao’an District. Bao’an District Secretary Ren YAO hosted the ceremony. He was joined by Bao’an District Mayor Lide WANG, SUSTech University Council Chairperson Yurong GUO, President Shiyi CHEN, and other key leaders from both SUSTech and the Bao’an District Government.

Shiyi CHEN and Lide WANG signed the supplementary agreement, and the Institute was officially settled in the Jingang building. It is said the agreement of related issues was signed on June 30, 2019. In recent times, the two sides officially named it the Southern Institute of Industrial Technology (Shenzhen) and selected ten scientific research projects in SUSTech.

Ren YAO said that SUSTech is a miracle of higher education in Shenzhen. The construction of SIIT is a milestone in the transformation and upgrading of Shenzhen’s industry. Bao’an District will fully support the construction and development of SIIT. He expressed the hope that SUSTech, with the support of resources and technological innovation environment in Bao’an district, will give full play to its advantages in personnel training, scientific and technical research and application, strengthen team building and academic inheritance, promote the landing of more landmark and exemplary achievements, thus boosting the industrial transformation and upgrading of Bao’an District.

Yurong GUO expressed the hope that the industrial foundation of Bao’an District and the innovative resource advantages of faculty and scientific research of SUSTech will be brought into full play. The Institute will further promote the integration of regional development and knowledge creation, innovation and entrepreneurship and transform research results into industrial development, contributing to national construction and regional innovation and development.

Shiyi CHEN  emphasized the significance of key area researches. This project should work as a benchmark of industry-university research and improve Bao’an District’s research and innovation abilities.

SUSTech’s representatives gave an introduction to the settled projects, including Miniaturized Rapid Nucleic Acid Extraction and Detection Platform, AI and Robotics Platform, and Computational Mechanics Software and Engineering Simulation Cloud Platform.

Southern Institute of Industrial Technology (Shenzhen) will focus on key industrial technologies in Bao’an District and Shenzhen City. It will be supported by innovation resources from SUSTech and its global partners and industry resources from Bao’an District enterprises. It would become an important training base for innovative talents in the Greater Bay Area and would serve as a core engine for leading the city’s development.
