SUSTech gets gift for new building naming

On November 19, the naming ceremony of SUSTech School of Humanities and Social Sciences Building was held. The Building was given the name, Zilin Building.

The School has a new name after it received a large donation from Xianhong WU, chairman of Jiuxiao Development Co., Ltd and Peking University Honorary Trustee.

The ceremony was hosted by SUSTech University Council Vice Chairperson Fengliang LI. He was joined by representatives of donators, SUSTech University Council Chairperson Yurong GUO, President Shiyi CHEN, and other senior leaders of SUSTech.

Xianhong WU talked about the profound influence of education on him and shared his meeting with SUSTech. WU said that education is an inexhaustible driving force for a country to thrive. Education has changed his life. The rapid and high-quality development of SUSTech in ten years since its establishment is impressive. He hoped to take the donation as an opportunity to work with SUSTech to promote the innovation and development of higher education in China and to cultivate more talents for national construction and social progress.

President Shiyi CHEN expressed great gratitude to WU for his donation to SUSTech. He said that first-class universities of science and engineering should also be equipped with first-class humanities education. The construction of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences Building is an important part of university development. SUSTech will live up to the expectations of society and contribute to the social development with the exploration and innovation of Humanities and Social Sciences and other fields.

After the ceremony, participants visited the Building. The Building was put into operation in October 2020. It covers an area of 6,545 square meters.
