Professor Xiaowei SUN of SUSTech awarded honorary doctorate from BSUIR

Recently, Chair Professor Xiaowei SUN of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR), becoming the first scholar from China to receive an honorary doctorate from the university.

The BSUIR was established in 1964. Disciplines of excellence include communication, information technology, microelectronics and nano-electronics, information protection and new functional materials, etc. It’s the number one research institution in Belarus and is a world leader in artificial intelligence, network communications, computer software and hardware design, and medical bioelectronics.

From 1998 to 2021, to commend global scholars for their scientific research achievements in the field of professional technology, the University awarded a total of seven scholars with honorary doctorate titles, including Nobel Prize winner Zhores Alferov.

Professor Xiaowei SUN is currently an Academician of the Asia Pacific Academy of Materials (APAM). He is also a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA), the International Society for Optical Engineers (SPIE), the Society for Information Display (SID), and the Institute of Physics (IoP).

A distinguished lecturer of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), he has made outstanding achievements in the fields of energy photonics, display and lighting science and technology, and organic electronics. He has also made significant contributions to the research and academic collaboration between Belarusian and Chinese universities.
