Success for students of SUSTech in finals of National Mathematics Competition

On May 15, 2021, the finals of the 12th National College Students Mathematical Competition were held at Jilin University. Hongxiang ZHAO and Yu’ang YANG of the Department of Mathematics at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) won the second and third national prizes for mathematics majors, respectively, in the finals. Qiang GAO of the Department of Physics and Botao REN of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering won the third national prize for non-mathematics majors.

Up to 206,921 students from 897 colleges and universities and 32 different regions around China participated in the preliminary rounds of the competition. The finals were divided into three categories: senior group and junior group for mathematics majors, and a group for non-mathematics majors. In the preliminary rounds, SUSTech won 25 provincial first prizes, 24 second prizes, and 27 third prizes.
