On October 29, the 9th China Collegiate Programming Contest (CCPC) (Guilin Site) was held at the Guilin University of Electronic Technology (GUET).
It consisted of 240 teams from 165 universities across the country, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Nanjing University.
Undergraduate students Zhaohang FENG, Yujun HE, and Zhaoyang HONG from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), made up the SUSTech-Helsinki team, placing third and setting a new record for the best results achieved by the University in the contest.
The SUSTech-Ikaalinen team, composed of undergraduate students Zhengyu LIN, Zihua ZENG, and Ziyue ZHAO, won the gold medal.
Among the students participating in the CCPC, Yujun HE, Zhaoyang HONG, and Zhengyu LIN are part of the Turing Class at the University.
The SUSTech Programming Competition Team was established in September 2017, and is coached and led by Assistant Professor Bo TANG and Teaching Laboratory Technician Yun SHEN, both of the Department of CSE.
There are currently 21 regular team members and four wild card members from the six residential colleges of the University.
The team also recently won the national championship in the CCPC for women, highlighting the strength of the University’s programming team.
The CCPC is sponsored by the Education and Examination Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
It is organized and hosted by the CCPC Organizing Committee and aims to stimulate the interest of students in learning professional knowledge and skills in the field of computers. It encourages them to apply computer knowledge and skills to solve practical problems, improve algorithm design, logical reasoning, mathematical modeling, programming implementation & computer system capabilities, cultivate teamwork awareness, and challenge their innovative ability.
