At the 2023 National Science and Technology Awards on June 24, Qing HU, Professor of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), was honored with the first prize of the State Technological Invention Award.
This recognition was for her groundbreaking project titled “Key Technologies and Applications for Groundwater Pollution Prevention and Control in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region”.
The State Technological Invention Award is among the highest accolades in China’s scientific and technological innovation field, signifying the nation’s highest appreciation for outstanding achievements.
In addition to her role as a professor at the School of ESE, Qing HU serves as the Director of the Engineering Innovation Center (Beijing) of SUSTech and is a state council special allowance expert.
Throughout her career, she has garnered numerous prestigious accolades, including the National Science and Technology Progress Award (2017), the Beijing Science and Technology Award (2022), and the Prize of Environmental Protection Science and Technology Award of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (2023).
Qing HU is an influential figure in various advisory capacities. She is a member of the Expert Advisory Committee of the Department of Soil Ecology and Environment at the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.
Additionally, she serves as a specially appointed expert for the medium- and long-term strategic planning of the Ministry of Science and Technology, a judge for the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize, and a member of the expert group for the Programme Committee of the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition.
