The 2024 APAC (Asia-Pacific) HPC-AI Supercomputing Competition concluded in October 2024, with the results announced at the SC24 conference in Atlanta, USA, in November.

The Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) Supercomputing Team claimed third place and a Merit Award. Additionally, they were invited by the HPC-AI Advisory Council to attend the SupercomputingAsia 2025 (SCA2025) conference in Singapore from March 10 to 13, 2025, where they received their award in person.

The students representing SUSTech at the event included graduate student Zudong LI from the Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering, and undergraduates Haibin LAI, Yukun YANG, Qiwen XIAO, Ziheng WANG, and Benxiang XIAO from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Department of Statistics and Data Science.

The SUSTech Supercomputing Team stood out from 41 competing teams from various countries and regions, including China, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, and Thailand, earning third place and the Merit Award. They were supported and guided by the University’s Center for Computational Science and Engineering (CCSE) and the SUSTech Student Supercomputing Club.

The team has won seven awards over the years, including first-, second-, and third-place finishes, along with several individual honors in various APAC HPC-AI Supercomputing competitions. They have also been invited to the SCA awards ceremony for three consecutive years, underscoring the exceptional skills of SUSTech students in supercomputing, artificial intelligence, intelligent computing, and applied innovation.

The SUSTech Student Supercomputing Club, a student-driven organization formed by enthusiasts at the University, has achieved excellent results in both domestic and international competitions in the fields of supercomputing and intelligent computing. As of March 2025, it has won 27 awards in various supercomputing contests, including 12 from the three major international student supercomputing competitions: ASC, ISC, and SC.
