On August 19, more than 1,000 freshmen arrived on campus at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), marking the start of an exciting new chapter in their lives.

University leaders, including University Council Vice-Chairperson Ling ZHANG, Vice President and Provost Hongwei FANG, along with heads of related departments, visited the designated registration areas on campus to meet with the new students and their family members, and learning firsthand about the check-in process, housing arrangements, and orientation activities.

This year, SUSTech enrolled 1,397 freshmen from 24 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions, as well as ten students through the Joint Entrance Examination to Chinese Universities for Overseas Chinese Students from Hong Kong. For the first time, the total number of new students has exceeded 1,400.

To ensure a smooth registration, the University made thorough preparations in advance. Students completed their check-in at designated areas before moving into their residential colleges and collecting their materials. Parents spoke highly of the attentive support of the volunteers and the well-coordinated process.

To help students settle in, SUSTech has organized a wide range of orientation activities, including campus tours, team-building sessions, cultural programs, and visits to local enterprises and museums, giving freshmen the chance to explore Shenzhen and immerse themselves in the vibrancy of university life.

In the coming weeks, the University has planned further events such as a welcome gala and freshman week, all designed to support the students as they adapt to their new environment and embark on their journey of academic and personal growth.
