The finals of the badminton event in the mass sports category of the 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China recently took place in Shenzhen.

Faculty member Yumin ZENG from the Sports Center at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was selected to serve as a referee.

Along with his teaching role at SUSTech, Yumin ZENG also oversees the organization of large-scale sporting events at the University. He holds dual national qualifications as both a top-level badminton athlete and referee, and has officiated at several major tournaments, including the China Masters (Super 750) and the Chinese National Badminton Championships, gaining extensive professional experience.

Reflecting on the event, he shared that it was both exciting and an honor to take part in the National Games in Shenzhen—not as a player this time, but as a referee.

Yumin ZENG added that, as a member of SUSTech, he was proud to contribute to a national-level competition and that this experience would become a valuable part of his teaching, inspiring more students at the University to develop a love for sports and strive for excellence.
