President Chen Shiyi visits UCLA and UC Irvine to discuss cooperation

Chen Shiyi, President of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), paid an official visit to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and University of California Irvine (UC Irvine) on January 18, 2016 and discussed cooperation with SUSTech in fields such as joint postgraduate program, student exchange and research cooperation.

On the morning of January 18, the delegation held talks with Jenn-Ming Yang, Vice Dean for Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, UCLA, discussing cooperation in a wide range, such as joint postgraduate program, the successive postgraduate and doctoral program for undergraduate student and other international education cooperation projects. Yang was supportive of the cooperation in education, introducing the school’s educational plan for master degree program. Both sides agreed to sign the cooperative agreement and implement the projects as soon as possible.

During its visit, the delegation also exchanged ideas with leaders and professors in UCLA.

On the afternoon of January 18, the delegation held talks with Gregory Washington, Dean of the Henry Samueli School of Engineering, UC Irvine and Professor Feng Liu. Dean Washington introduced the basic situation of the school and noted that the school would strengthen cooperation with SUSTech. The two sides introduced respective research fields and discussed the modes of cooperation between the two sides, including joint program and student short-term exchange program.
