As part of the 8th Grubbs Symposium, the Shenzhen Grubbs Institute (Institute) established its first management committee held in Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech).
Robert H. Grubbs, co-recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2005, the Victor and Elizabeth Atkins Professor of Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), along with SUSTech Vice President Jinguang Teng and Director of the Shenzhen Municipal Science and Technology Innovation Committee Weizhong Xi attended the meeting. Other key attendees included Dean Xueming Yang of the College of Sciences, and academicians such as Yong Tang, Yundong Wu and Chi-Ming Che. The meeting was chaired by Executive Dean Zhiping Zheng of the Shenzhen Grubbs Institute.
As part of the meeting, attendees received a briefing about the Shenzhen Grubbs Institute and the first management committee was formally established.
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and SUSTech President Shiyi Chen shall serve as management committee director. Robert H. Grubbs will serve as Director of the Academic Committee.
Director Weizhong Xi said that the Grubbs Research Institute is supported by all walks of life. The Institute has made significant scientific breakthroughs with its outstanding research platforms.
Vice President Jinguang Teng believed that focusing on the Institute’s innovative research work and building a world-class research center are its central goals. Establishing the management committee will see the rapid development of the Institute get to a higher level.
Following his speech, Vice President Jinguang Teng chaired the first meeting of the Shenzhen Grubbs Institute management committee. Within the management committee meeting, delegates reviewed the charter of the committee and the academic committee. They also determined the candidates for the academic committee, and settled on the short, medium and long term goals for the Institute.
