On April 15, 2016, Director-General Sun Xueyu of Organization Department of CPC Central Committee, Talents Affair Bureau and his colleagues visited SUSTech and talked with representatives of experts and scholars in China Talents Program. The workshop was also attended by Vice President Zheng Qingshun of Organization Department in CPC Guangdong Committee and Zheng Ke, Executive Member of CPC Shenzhen Committee and President of Organization Department of CPC Shenzhen Committee. Besides, the workshop was attended by SUSTech President Chen Shiyi, Vice President Wu Chuanyue, Secretary-General Dong Chaojun, Chief Operating Officer Lu Chun, chairs and deans of SUSTech departments and schools, representatives of professors, principals of other universities, research institutions and enterprises and representatives of China Talents Programs.
At the workshop, on behalf of SUSTech, President Chen Shiyi expressed thanks to the strong support and care from the Organization Departments of CPC Central Committee, Guangdong Committee and Shenzhen Committee as well as the officials from these organizations. From the perspectives of SUSTech mission, targets, vision, positioning, discipline development, faculty team, talents training, research, international cooperation and campus development, President Chen Shiyi reported on SUSTech plan of “rooted in China and building world-class research university.”
Under the leadership of CPC SUSTech Committee, SUSTech has established the first-class professor team pillared on senior-level talents, in particular those in the 1,000 Talents Program. Chen Shiyi said, “We will work hard and build SUSTech into the world-class university as soon as possible.”
Those speaking at the workshop included some SUSTech professors in 1,000 Talents Program, principals of CAS Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Shenzhen University and DPLED, and representatives of experts in China Talents Program, who shared their ideas and offered proposed on talents development mechanism and institution in China.
Sun Xueyu expressed respect and thanks to experts and scholars present at the workshop. He said, “Entrusted by leaders of the Organization Department in CPC Central Committee, I wish to express respect for the achievements made by the experts and say thanks to the contributions you have made. Thank you for your strong support to the talents work in the Organization Department of CPC Central Committee.”
Sun Xueyu said, “Of the 2,700 universities in China, SUSTech is a unique one. Located in Shenzhen as the forefront of China reform and opening-up, SUSTech has its special charm and value. With greatest dynamics, SUSTech has wonderful discipline building and facilities. It has gathered a large number of excellent scholars and experts from home and abroad. Without historical burden or limits, it is the most promising university. And with mechanism, ideas and targets, it can draw the most beautiful picture on the blank paper and produce the best and most legendary stories. In particular, it is able to identify the new path of integrating research institutes, university and enterprises, and push forward building of innovation system in China. SUSTech has a very powerful team. The senior-level professors, researchers, staff and administration team lay a solid foundation for its development.”
Mr. Sun pointed out, “I hope SUSTech can produce more talents, results and experience. SUSTech, as the pilot-test field for tertiary education reform, can make bold explorations in institution and reform, accumulate experience and law, and provide experience that can be learned from and duplicated for reform and development of other colleges and universities.”
Before the workshop, Sun Xueyu also visited the dimensional map for SUSTech plan and its laboratories. He gave great praise for SUSTech development and research environment.
