On the afternoon of August 25, the Fourth Session of Second SUSTech Education Foundation Council was convened. During the meeting, Guo Yurong was elected Chairman of the Council, Li Ming and Wang Jixiang Vice Chairman, and CEO of Baoneng Group Yao Zhenhua and CEO of CheerLand Investment Group Liu Ruyin Honorary Chairman of the Council. Presided over by Ye Qin, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of SUSTech Education Foundation, the meeting also deliberated and passed the Work Report of 2015 and Work Plan for 2016, reviewed the execution of 2016 work plan in the first six months.    

In 2015, the total revenue of SUSTech Education Foundation was RMB 10,221,300. In 2016, SUSTech Education Foundation made further breakthroughs and received active donations from all walks of life. During the first eight months of 2016, the foundation received in total RMB 26,834,500 and HKD 20 million.

Li Ming, former Chairman of University Council of SUSTech and former Chairman of SUSTech Education Foundation, talked about the development of the foundation and the achievements it had made in this year. This year, SUSTech Education Foundation received many large donations, whose sum reached tens of millions or even hundreds of millions. This reflects that SUSTech leadership has made fruitful results with their hard work, and that the education quality of SUSTech is recognized by all walks of life, showing that SUSTech’s spirit, school-running mode and development goal are right and strategically forward looking. SUSTech Education Foundation serves as the window of the University and a channel for promoting the University. It enables the brand image of SUSTech to be widely recognized in the society, thereby encouraging more people and organizations to make donations to the foundation. We believe that under the leadership of the new chairman of the Education Foundation Council, the foundation will be more dynamic and vibrant, and that the foundation will be built into a world-class university foundation.  

As Vice Chairman of SUSTech Education Foundation Council, President Chen Shiyi elaborated on the recent development of the University to the Council. According to Chen, SUSTech’s achievements in cultivating undergraduates are obvious to all, with the employment of its first class of undergraduates arousing wide concern from the society. The teachers made many major breakthroughs in scientific research. The introduction of high-end talents, the publication of high level papers, the successful holding of various academic summits and symposiums, the cooperation with renowned universities abroad and other events have gradually enhanced the global impact of SUSTech. Besides, the University has been doing better in graduate and doctor enrollment and cultivation, and have launched many joint education programs with many famous universities and colleges worldwide. In the future, SUSTech will gradually become a world top-notch research-oriented university.

As Baoneng Group and CheerLand Investment Group had made great contributions to the education undertaking of SUSTech, their CEOs Yao Zhenhua and Liu Ruyin were granted Honorary Chairman of SUSTech Education Foundation Council.

Attending directors actively perform their duties by offering advice and suggestions on the operation of SUSTech and Education Foundation. Addressing the Council, Honorary Chairman of Education Foundation Yao Zhenhua expressed that to build SUSTech into China’s Stanford is of great significance to Shenzhen and China. With a grateful heart, Baoneng Group is willing to strongly support the development of education cause of SUSTech as well as China. Baoneng Group carries out all-round and multi-dimensional cooperation with SUSTech. Apart from donation, Baoneng Group will also spare no effort and give full support to the development of SUSTech. Guo Yurong made the concluding remarks. She stated that with the supports of enterprises and all walks of life, SUSTech will inherit the innovative gene of Shenzhen, to build up an innovative mechanism and construct a world-class university taking root in Shenzhen and China. Aiming at building a world top-notch research-oriented university and the international first class educational foundation, SUSTech Education Foundation operates efficiently with innovative thinking, productized design, standardized system and information-based means. Through enhancing communication and mutual trust between SUSTech and all sectors of society, actively promoting connectivity and cooperation among various charitable organizations, SUSTech Education Foundation is being built into the brand image promoter, public relations consultant, charity ambassador, expert in raising development funds and financial planner of SUSTech. The Foundation will also vigorously build the great platform for all sectors of society to support and participate in the reform and development of SUSTech, attract more social and private capital, continuously input donation funds through multiple channels and forms, so as to make contribution to the solid foundation for university reform, jointly strive for the great cause of building first class university, and practice the “science, technology and innovation driven” mode to build Shenzhen into an international, modern and innovative city.
