On the morning of October 16, 2016, a delegation led by Liu Yunjie, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Science and Technology Committee of China Unicom visited Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). Prof. Wang Duoxiang, Vice President of SUSTech, met with the delegation. Heads of the Beijing Institute of Collaborative Innovation, the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of SUSTech were present.

Wang introduced SUSTech in such aspects as talent training, innovation achievements and enterprise-university-institute cooperation. Heads and relevant professors of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering introduced respective research fields, research project implementation, future research plans, etc.

Liu appreciated SUSTech’s achievements in a short period, noting that the integration of academia and the industrial circles is the key content of China’s industrial transformation. There is a solid foundation for the cooperation between the two sides in electronic communication, AI and next-generation Internet. At the meeting, the two sides exchanged ideas on jointly building the SUSTech Future Network Research Institute.       

Guided by national strategies such as “Network Power” and “Made in China 2025”, with the goal of promoting the industrialization of future core network technologies and products, the SUSTech Future Network Research Institute will keep attracting world top research and application talents, integrate resources, promote the massive development and implementation of future network technologies, products and applications, and accomplish the industrialization of research findings. The institute will focus on network communication, big data, ICT application and network security.
