Vice-Chancellor of University of Birmingham Andy Schofield visits SUSTech

On November 18, 2016, a delegation led by Andy Schofield, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Engineering and Physical Science at the University of Birmingham, visited Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). President Chen Shiyi and Vice-President Tang Tao of SUSTech; Hou Shengtao, Director of the Department of Global Engagement; Yao Xin, Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering; and other executives of SUSTech met with the visitors.

On the morning of November 18, Tang welcomed the visitors on behalf of SUSTech; Hou introduced SUSTech’s basic situation, international features and cooperation with foreign universities.

Subsequently, the two sides exchanged ideas on research and graduate education cooperation, and explored cooperation in undergraduate exchange, “2+2” and “3+1” training, student exchange and summer exchange project.

Schofield expected to take this opportunity to implement the cooperative graduate program with SUSTech, learn about more schools and departments of SUSTech, establish relations between faculty members on the two sides, further promote the undergraduate exchange programs and carry out all-round cooperation.

Chen met with the delegation. With a long history and a precious tradition, the University of Birmingham is well worth learning and reference by SUSTech. He expected the two sides to cement cooperation and exchange, to create a new outlook and opportunity for the future development of both sides.

On the afternoon of November 18, Schofield introduced the University of Birmingham and the cooperative doctoral program at the function room of Zhiren College, with the participation of over 50 students.

Ye Dongni and Wu Lishan of the University of Birmingham Guangzhou Centre accompanied the delegation. The delegation also visited the laboratories of the Department of Physics, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and found out the situation of related departments and their cooperation needs, in the hope of furthering the cooperation between the two sides.
