The Committee for International Research and Education (CIRE) of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) recently announced the recipients of the 2025 ASA International Student Grants.
Kai LUO, a Ph.D. student of the School of Automation and Intelligent Manufacturing (formerly the School of System Design and Intelligent Manufacturing) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), was among the selected recipients. This marks the first time a student from SUSTech has received this award.
The ASA International Student Grants have been awarded annually since 2006. Each year, the CIRE invites graduate students worldwide who are conducting acoustics-related research to apply for this prestigious scholarship.
Following a rigorous selection process, approximately ten recipients are selected. The scholarship aims to support the growth of young scholars in the field of acoustics, inspiring them to advance research and innovation.
A Ph.D. student under the guidance of Lin YE, Chair Professor of the School of Automation and Intelligent Manufacturing, Kai LUO focuses his research on applying ultrasonic guided waves to structural health monitoring in composite materials.
To date, he has published 14 academic papers as the first or corresponding author in leading international journals such as Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, NDT & E International, and IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement.
