On July 27, Xinyi LIU, an undergraduate student of Shude College and the School of Medicine at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), stood out in the finals of the 2025 Shenzhen Science Popularization Explanation Contest and won the Best Creativity Award and Third Prize in the adult category.
The finals were hosted by the Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology and organized by the Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum.
It drew 482 participants from 189 organizations across the city. After a round of preliminary reviews held from July 22 to 24, 60 participants advanced to the final stage. Contestants in the adult category delivered speeches on a range of hot topics, including cutting-edge technologies, ecological protection, life and health sciences, and basic research.
Xinyi LIU captivated the audience by sharing his personal connection to migrasomes. He then broke down the complex topic in a clear and engaging way, explaining what migrasomes are, how they form, and the roles they play.
Another SUSTech student, Han YAN from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, also took home a Third Prize for her presentation on why mosquitoes are attracted to humans.
