On April 4, 2026, the Seventh Spring Sports Day of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) opened at Green Pine Capital Stadium. This sports event, themed “Strive Together, Surpass Together,” attracted 92 participating teams from the whole school, with a total of 1,437 participants gathering at the venue, playing a symphony of youth and sports in high spirits.

This sports meeting continues the dual-track competition format of undergraduate and graduate groups. The undergraduate group competes on a class basis, while the graduate group is formed by teams from eleven colleges, including the College of Science, College of Engineering, School of Life Sciences, and School of Medicine. The event structure covers three main areas: individual competitions, team collaboration, and physical fitness testing, as well as 16 competition events such as ultimate frisbee, Double Dutch jump rope, rowing, tug of war, shuttlecock kicking, long-distance relay, and all-around physical fitness competition, comprehensively testing students’ physical fitness, athletic skills, and teamwork abilities.

At the competition site, the participating teams from various colleges and schools were full of spirit and high morale. On the athletics field, the athletes were poised to spring into action, moving as fast as lightning; at the tug-of-war area, the cheering and encouragement were deafening, with team cohesion bursting forth; on the ultimate frisbee field, the athletes ran and leaped, coordinating seamlessly and passing with precision; at the rowing area, the athletes held their breath and focused, maintaining steady rhythm, giving their all with each stroke; in the all-around physical fitness competition, various tests were conducted in an orderly manner, with students challenging themselves and pushing their limits, showcasing the vibrant energy of SUSTech students through comprehensive qualities.
SUSTech has deeply practiced the educational philosophy of “health first,” aiming to comprehensively enhance students’ physical fitness. The university has introduced a series of systematic and pragmatic sports reform measures, actively building an integrated in-class and extracurricular education system, and focusing on guiding students to develop long-term exercise habits. The school has innovated the event system by separating traditional single-sport competitions from fitness-enhancement activities, holding more than 40 school-level sports events throughout the year, attracting more than 15,000 participants in total; at the same time, institutional documents such as the “SUSTech Sports Team Management Measures” and the “Implementation Measures for Skill Levels in SUSTech Sports Programs” were introduced to further improve the support mechanism for sports. This spring sports meeting introduced innovative features such as the physical fitness all-around competition, class tug-of-war, long-distance relay race, and class-level physical fitness tests, proving highly effective in enhancing fitness and fostering a collective sense of honor.
SUSTech implements tiered and categorized management for student sports teams, continuously breaking through in competitive levels: in 2025, it won second place in the overall team score at the Guangdong University Student Sports Games, earned two gold, three silver, three bronze, and one special award in national competitions throughout the year, and clinched four gold, 13 silver, and 17 bronze in provincial competitions. In the past three years, the student physical fitness pass rate has remained above 96%, and in 2025, the rate of excellent physical fitness results reached a new historical high, with steady improvement in Guangdong Province’s physical fitness sampling results, laying a solid foundation for SUSTech to cultivate top-notch innovative talents developing morally, intellectually, physically, aesthetically, and practically.
