Overseas exchange students of SUSTC participated in the Chinese gathering to welcome the visit of President Xi Jinping to the U.S.

On the morning of Sep. 24 of America Eastern Standard Time, 10 students of SUSTC visited and studied in Temple University took a long-distance bus and excitedly went to participate in the grand gathering held in District of Columbia, Washington for welcoming President Xi Jinping for the first state visit to the U.S. with other ethnic Chinese from other places of the U.S..

As a program of undergraduate international education exchange of SUSTC, these 10 students will study in the major of finance, physics, chemistry and so on of Temple University for one semester from sophomore year to senior year from this Fall Semester, rich their study experience, broadening international view. After one month of entrance, coinciding with President Xi Jinping’s first state visit to the U.S., students are eagerly to participate in the activity.

The welcoming gathering held in Washington is convenedand organized by China’s embassy in the United States and responded and supported by Chinese Students and Scholars Association and Chamber of Commerce of Eastern University. Students participating in the activity put on red Tshirt which has the same color with our national flag after arriving in Washington;there is a printed Bald Eagle represented for the U.S. and a cartoon pattern of Panda represented for China; students there gathered in the Eisenhower Administrative Office Building near the west wing of the White House to wait. At 7:30 Pm, the motorcade of President Xi Jinping arrived, the waiting people fervently waved their welcoming banners, gladly exclaimed “Go China!”, “Welcome Chairman Xi” until the solemn motorcade disappeared behind the White House

Student attended the activity indicated that they treasurethe experience of welcoming the leader of our country in a foreign country verymuch. “When you are in a foreign country, the thought for our own countrybecomes more clear and eager. The Five-Starred Red Flag seems more geniality and speaking Chinese makes us more powerful.”
