Chief Economic and Commercial Counselor of Spanish Consulate in Guangzhou Visits SUSTech

Carlos J. Tortola Sebastian, Chief Economic and Commercial Counselor at Consulate of Spain in Guangzhou, visited SUSTech on June 5th to discuss collaborative possibilities in academia, science, technology, and entrepreneurship. Mao Qing, Founder of Spanish Company INCEISA S.A., also attended the visit.

The guests were accompanied by President Chen Shiyi, Chief Financial Officer Ye Qin, and representatives from the Research Office, Global Engagement Office, Department of Biology, Department of Ocean Science and Engineering, and the SUSTech-INCEISA Innovative Research Institute. The SUSTech personnel and the guests later had a meeting, hosted by Chen Shiyi.

Chen first acknowledged that Spain’s well-developed educational system, pointing out that it has many top universities and powerful research institutes. He hoped for more collaboration and exchange opportunities between SUSTech and universities in Spain, as well as collaborations between universities and research institutes.

Carlos Tortola introduced his job duties and future projects in China. He said the Economic and Commercial Office at Consulate of Spain in Guangzhou took over educational, scientific and technological affairs in 2014 and planned to build a Spanish Technology Center in Shenzhen. He also looked forward to long-term and in-depth collaborations with SUSTech in education and research.
