On July 7, a group of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwanese students from Chinese Mainland’s 2018 Internet Enterprise Internship Program visited SUSTech and were warmly welcomed by Communications and Public Relations Office Director Zhang Ling. Held in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen at the same time, the program was organized by foundations, internet culture associations and economic development associations in Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.
Director Zhang showed the students SUSTech’s 3D campus construction model, introduced the university’s innovative characteristics in detail, and took them to the campus’ most popular places: the Lynn Library, the Materials Characterization and Preparation Building, the Cryo-Electron Microscopy Innovation and Research Center (Cryo-EM Center) and Zhiren Residential College.
The students were amazed by the beauty of the campus and commented on SUSTech’s high-end research equipment and leading research team when visiting the Cryo-EM Center. They highly praised the innovative residential college system and volunteer culture, especially after hearing the introduction by Director Zhang, Zhixin Residential College student Zhang Hongxu, and Student Emergency Rescue Team’s Deputy Leader Li Daifeng. The students also learned about the story of economic reform in Shenzhen, which later spread across the entire Chinese mainland.
Next, Hong Kong Open University Sophomore Cheng Man shared her thoughts on SUSTech and Shenzhen: “Shenzhen is an inclusive immigrant city that encourages innovation, and I am deeply moved and motivated by Shenzhen-er’s courage and venture spirit. SUSTech is a beautiful campus with a group of competitive students, which truly impress me.” City University of Hong Kong Tsang Chung Man added that the rapid development in high-tech here has completely changed her view of Hong Kong’s neighbor city.
At lunchtime, everyone talked more about SUSTech and Shenzhen as well as about the respective schools and cities they came from. The students from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan were also amazed by the work efficiency at SUSTech since they received printed group photos just a few hours after it was taken. They left the university with positive remarks of SUSTech such as “grand” “innovative” “beautiful” and “energetic.”, and exchanged contacts for future communication.
