Recently, the Fifth Cross-Strait Forum on Education of Modern Residential Colleges took place at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Over 400 experts, scholars, students and college representatives from CUHK, University of Oxford, Fudan University and SUSTech attended the forum. Director of Residential Colleges Han Wei, Dean of Shuren Residential College Huang Limin, and Director of Student Affairs Office Xue Zheng were among the SUSTech staff in attendance.

Last year, Shuren Residential College became an official member of the Association of Residential Colleges of Higher Education Institutions. The association aims to encourage all institutions involved to share their experiences and resources in college work. It also promotes further collaborations and mutual development among the residential colleges of the member institutions.

At the forum, experts and scholars such as Oxford University Professor Nick Rawlins, CUHK Union College Professor Jimmy C. M. Yu, and Dean of Fudan University Xide College Zhou Luwei made presentations on fostering talents at residential colleges and residential colleges’ roles in globalization. SUSTech representatives initiated in-depth discussions with other attendees on general education, as well as academic concentrations of residential colleges’ advisors and counselors.

The SUSTech staff joined others in visiting CUHK’s Union College and Shaw College while learning about the advanced college management skills from CUHK. Our delegation introduced the unique characteristics of SUSTech’s residential colleges. They were also able to reach agreements on student exchanges and general education collaborations with CUHK college personnel.
