Master of University of Oxford’s Balliol College Pays A Visit

Dame Helen Ghosh from the University of Oxford’s Balliol College visited our school. University President Chen Shiyi, and Tang Tao, the vice president, met with the delegation.

President Chen Shiyi welcomed Dame Helen Ghosh and the delegation. He pointed out that Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) has recently exchanged visits with other colleges from the University of Oxford. The two universities have made gratifying progress in cooperation and exchanges at both the university and departmental level. He expected that the two sides would cooperate more in the future, which would benefit both teachers and students. At the same time, both universities would promote the exchange of talents between China and the UK, for the betterment of scientific research.

Dame Helen Ghosh said that the visit left a deep impression on her. SUSTech has shown great strength and development potential in terms of overall planning, scientific research strength, teacher strength, and student quality. She is very much looking forward to the development of SUSTech, along with future exchanges across multiple fields.

Prior to the talks, Dame Helen Ghosh and her entourage visited the Lakeside College and the Maker Space to learn about the university system, the talent training model, and the students’ innovative practices. They also had a cordial exchange with SUSTech students. Dame Helen Ghosh and her team were impressed with the active thinking and positive attitude of our students. Dame Helen Ghosh said that SUSTech students are welcome to exchange studies at the University of Oxford.

Director of the Strategy and Development Department of the Rhodes Trust Alasdair Maclay and founder and Chairman of the China-UK Summit Li Zongyang accompanied Dame Helen Ghosh. Dean of the College of Engineering Xu Zhenghe and Dean of the School of Sciences Yang Xueming were joined by the heads of the Office of Student Affairs, Global Engagement Office, and the Office of Teaching Affairs.

Founded in 1263, Balliol College at the University of Oxford is one of the most famous and oldest colleges in Oxford. It has trained many prominent figures including the British Prime Minister and many others in British political circles. Balliol College is also the Oxford College that recruits the most foreign students.
