Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) hosted the Advanced Technology Seminar on Earthquake Disaster Mitigation in the Metropolitan Area. The seminar was co-sponsored by SUSTech and the Shanghai Earthquake Administration. Experts from universities, earthquake administrations and research institutes across China attended the conference.

Head Chen Yongshun of the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering chaired the seminar. Academicians Chen Yuntai and Chen Xiaofei of the Chinese Academy of Sciences were joined by Director Wu Jianchun of the Shanghai Earthquake Administration and Director Huang Jiantao of the Shenzhen Institute of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Technology.

All four of them provided important reports to the seminar about earthquake prevention and damage mitigation in urban areas. Further reports from experts and scholars assisted the brainstorming session that saw a wide range of comments and suggestions for earthquake prevention and disaster reduction work.

The seminar provided a platform for knowledge sharing and exchange for researchers engaged in earthquake prevention and disaster reduction in metropolitan areas. It provided an opportunity for sharing advanced knowledge of earthquake prevention and disaster reduction technology in urban areas at home and abroad. They discussed current earthquake prevention and disaster reduction work in metropolitan areas and the lack of technical research and development issues. The seminar contributed to the development of earthquake and disaster reduction work in urban and metropolitan areas.
