December 3rd saw President Wojciech Nowak of Poland’s Jagiellonian University lead a delegation to Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). SUSTech President Chen Shiyi welcomed Wojciech Nowak and his party to campus, along with senior leaders such as Vice-Provost (Global Strategies) Zheng Chunmiao and Director of the International Center for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO Li Ming.
Chen Shiyi said that Jagiellonian, as an institution of higher learning with a long history in Poland, pairing with SUSTech, as a young university born in the innovative city of Shenzhen, will promote the integration of new and traditional eras while drawing on each other’s strengths and mutually developing. Since the establishment of inter-university cooperative relations, both sides have conducted academic and research exchanges which have laid a foundation for promoting mutual understanding and cooperation.
Wojciech Nowak said Jagiellonian is located in the historic city of Krakow in Poland and enjoys an excellent global reputation for its teaching and research quality.
During their discussions, Chen Shiyi and Wojciech Nowak signed a cooperation and exchange agreement, which lays out cooperation and exchange arrangements in areas such as faculty, students, academic exchange, scientific research, and joint training.
The delegation from Jagiellonian University also visited the International Center for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO, the 3D campus planning sand table, the Pico Center and the Shenzhen Grubbs Institute.
Background:
Jagiellonian University was built in 1364 and is one of the oldest universities in Poland. It has been one of the most important research bases in Europe since its establishment. It gave birth to the famous astronomer Nicolai Copernicus, mathematician Waclaw Sierpinski, economist Carl Menger, and other outstanding alumni. Jagiellonian University and SUSTech signed a memorandum of cooperation in April 2017.
