SUSTC, UCLA and USC Seek Future Cooperation

” UCLA welcomes cooperation with SUSTC in various areas. We are willing to make all possible effects to realize it, ”says President Gene Block after his high appreciation of SUSTC.

SUSTC President Shiyi Chen paid an official visit to University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and University Of Southern California (USC) from August 9th to 11th.

Professor Gene Block, the president of UCLA and Professor Cindy Fan, the Interim Vice-Provost for International Studies and Ren Sun, Associate Vice Provost met with President Chen and his delegation.

Both sides explored the possibility of establishing the exchange system of students and faculty, and academic cooperation in future.

President Block accepted the invitation of visiting SUSTC from President Chen for further negotiations.  


During the visit, President Chen and his delegation met with the leadership and professors from UCLA.

On the afternoon of August 10, Professor Vijay Dhir, Dean of Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, Professor Jenn-Ming Yang, the Vice Dean held a meeting with President Chen and his delegation on the joint undergraduate/postgraduate program, student exchange and academic cooperation.

Dean Vijay Dhir gives his support and provides valuable suggestions.

On the morning of August 11, President Chen and the delegation had a discuss meeting with the professors from Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science,which was presided by Professor Chih-Ming Ho, member of he National Academy of Engineering. Both sides discussed the various modes of cooperation in future, including summer research program and academic research cooperation.

On the morning of August 10, President Chen and the delegation  met with leadership of USC, including Vice President Sally Pratt, Vice President Gene Bickers, Professor Yannis Yortsos, Dean of Viterbi School of Engineering, Vice Dean LouiseYates and Raghu Raghavendra. Both sides also explore the possibility for future cooperation.
