On July 29 and 30, the 3rd Forum on Modern Residential College Models Cross Straits, Macau SAR and Hong Kong SAR 2016 (FMRCM) was held in University of Macau. Altogether 14 people from SUSTech attended the forum, including Director Xue Zheng of Office of Students Affairs, Vice Dean Bao Chuanwen of Zhiren College, Vice Dean Lu Qi of Shuren College, Vice Dean Lan Hai of Zhicheng College, Vice Dean Yang Zaiyong of Shude College and representatives of student counselors from the four residential colleges.
Themed “Student Development in a Residential College and the Shaping of Its Educational Characteristics”, the forum invited working staff and researchers from 41 universities in the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao to discuss the assessment of residential college’s learning outcome, the collaboration of residential colleges with faculties, educational programs for student development and the development of the characteristics of residential colleges, so as to provide reference on the construction of residential colleges across straits, Hong Kong and Macao.
On the session of reporting outstanding papers, Vice Dean Bao Chuanwen of Zhiren College delivered a speech titled “the Way to Cultivating Attuned and Complete Personality in a Residential College”, in which he briefly introduced SUSTech’s triad model of student affairs as well as Zhiren College’s unique educational system, including the core values, working principles, educational classroom, etc. He also put forward topics such as how to control the education quality of residential colleges and the Ultimate Questions, and had in-depth discussions with teachers and students present at the forum.
During the forum, staff of SUSTech residential colleges had extensive and in-depth interactions with their colleagues from 40 other universities across China. In addition, they reached preliminary cooperation intentions with Clare Hall of University of Cambridge, Cheng Yu Tung College of University of Macau and United College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, hoping there would be more opportunities for exchanges and cooperation in the future.
