On January 23, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) signed a four-party cooperation agreement with Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Department, Beijing Institute of Collaborative Innovation (BICI) and Yunnan Energy Investment Group. A cooperation agreement is also signed between SUSTech and Yunnan University. Deputy secretary and deputy director of the Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Department Dong Baotong joined SUSTech President Chen Shiyi, and representatives from BICI and Yunnan Energy Investment Group attended the ceremony.

 President Chen Shiyi spoke about SUSTech’s future development and how to get there from its current position. He hoped that the signatories would work closely together, have in depth communications, work together to take advantage of each others competitive advantages, and create a new vision of collaborative innovation.

The signatories all expressed their visions of promoting scientific and technological innovation with SUSTech. The “Yunnan International Innovation Center Cooperation Agreement” and the “SUSTech and Yunnan University Cooperation Agreement” were both signed as part of the ceremony.

SUSTech will cooperate with the signatories to build an international innovation center, working together to create a new cooperation model among government, industry, and research institutes. By relying on the center, SUSTech will carry out in-depth cooperation and integrate Yunnan Province’s innovation and development into a contribution towards the Belt and Road Initiative. At the same time, SUSTech will carry out long-term cooperation with Yunnan University in areas such as talent exchange, innovative technology and industry-university-research transformation. Complementary advantage models and the combination of arts and sciences will also be introduced and adapted to promote the construction of first-class universities and first-class disciplines, that strive to explore the direction of reform and development of Chinese universities. The implementation of this strategy in Yunnan Province will improve the quality of personnel training and scientific research, and play an active role in social services, technological innovation and international exchanges and cooperation.
