Guo Yurong visits Shantou University

Last week, following her visit to two Chaoshan middle schools, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong led a larger delegation to Shantou University. She was joined by Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang and Secretary-General Chen Siqi. Shantou University President Jiang Hong and Executive President Wang Quan greeted the SUSTech delegation. Senior leaders from both institutions joined the meeting that took place later in the day.

Chairperson Guo Yurong led the SUSTech entourage through the Shantou University Library, the Human Life Science Museum, the Simulation Medical Center, and the Hongyi College. Later, both universities discussed cooperation, personnel training, and innovative institutions of higher education.

Chairperson Guo Yurong said that SUSTech shoulders a mission in exploring a modern university system with Chinese characteristics while discovering innovative talent training models. Shantou University remains committed to developing a quality management system and excellent education with modern universities. Both universities are committed to building advanced and internationally renowned high-level universities. They can learn from each other and promote each other in many aspects. She hoped to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Shantou University.

President Jiang Hong introduced the party building work of Shantou University. She hoped that both universities would have strong exchanges and cooperation to maximize their complementary advantages while sharing resource and building their respective brands.

On November 4, 2018, SUSTech signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation framework agreement with Shantou University. The cooperation covers a wide range of issues from governance to research and talent pipelines. Both universities have established a long-term strategic cooperative relationship. Based on the principle of “resource sharing, complementary advantages, equality and mutual benefit, mutual promotion”, they have maintained a close relationship and strong alliance. They are committed to the development of Guangdong higher education and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. Both universities will make positive contributions to the economic and social development of the region.
