December 6th to 8th saw the orienteering team of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) succeed yet again. This time, it was in the Guangdong University Orienteering Championships, hosted by SUSTech and Shenzhen University Town. More than 1200 athletes and coaches from across Guangdong Province participated in this year’s Championship.

SUSTech Sports Center Director Dong Lunhong led the SUSTech team of 24 students across 16 individual events and four team events. Through the hard work of all the students and Sports Center teacher Hou Siyu and Liang Xiyuan, the SUSTech Orienteering Team was the best in Guangdong.

The SUSTech orienteering team also claimed first place in the adult group and 2nd in the youth group. They were the best in nearly all team categories, with the women’s youth team coming in 2nd. SUSTech also claimed ten individual championships and 14 individual runners-up. Hou Siyu received the “Best Coach” award.

Once the competition ended, SUSTech was officially selected as the “Shenzhen Orienteering Training Base.” It reflects positively on the sporting culture of SUSTech.

The Orienteering Team at SUSTech has found significant success since its establishment at all levels. They have won 3 championships, five runner-up prizes, and four third prizes in the Chinese Student Orienteering Championships. The team has previously claimed first place in both the 4th Guangdong University Student Orienteering Finals and the National Student Orienteering Championships.
