On December 11, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) held a political education conference for students. SUSTech University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong, Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang, Vice President Zhang Dongxiao, Secretary-General Chen Siqi, Communications & Public Relations Director Zhang Ling and Human Resources Director Chen Zhifeng all attended the conference. They were joined by heads of department and residential college counselors.
The conference was hosted by the Political Education and Research Center, Student Affairs Office and SUSTech Graduate School. Li Fengliang chaired the conference, which saw Dalian Maritime University Professor Qu Jianwu give a guest lecture.
SUSTech University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong emphasized the importance of the attendees’ work. The students need to work together for the benefit of China and their personal development into future leaders of the new era.
Dalian Maritime University Professor Qu Jianwu expounded on his own teaching experience to discuss student communication as an educator. He talked about how to best guide students towards a positive frame of mind and the ideal path in life. Professor Qu Jianwu encouraged the faculty members to work hard to help students develop a sound moral value system.
Student Affairs Director Xue Zheng talked about the political education work for undergraduates at SUSTech. He expanded on the requirements from the Ministry of Education and the work being done by the Office of Student Affairs in conducting professional training for faculty members.
Graduate School Assistant Dean Tang Yu spoke about the postgraduate education system at SUSTech. She said that the Graduate School would continue to improve the evaluation system of its mentors to enhance its mechanisms for postgraduate education.
Political Education and Research Center Director Wang Dejun discussed the courses in his center. He committed to improve the Political Education and Research Center in many different ways, including its courses and training methods.
College of Science Party Committee Deputy Secretary Lan Hai talked about the work done in the College of Science in 2019. The College of Science is highly committed to proper scientific rigor that supports the development of scientific research for the nation. College of Engineering (CoE) representative Zhang Xing had similar comments about the efforts of CoE in driving progress across the Greater Bay Area.
Communications and Public Relations Director Zhang Ling closed the conference by discussing the integration of political education with other aspects of SUSTech’s pedagogic culture. He encouraged all the attendees to continue improving their work.
