Hong WANG, Chair Professor of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), recently received the 2023 Ferroelectrics Recognition Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in recognition of her leading work on new dielectric ceramics with ultra-low sintering temperatures for LTCC devices.

Hong WANG is currently the Dean of the Graduate School at SUSTech. She has long been engaged in the applied basic research of electronic information materials and devices, and was elected as an IEEE Fellow in 2020.

Prof. WANG is a recipient of the National Nature Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, a Changjiang Distinguished Professor by the Ministry of Education, a leading talent in scientific and technological innovation in the National High-level Talents Special Support Program, and a special allowance expert of the State Council.

She is currently a member of the Council of the Chinese Ceramic Society and the IEEE Ferroelectric Standing Committee, Vice-President of the Micro-Nano Technology Branch of the Chinese Ceramic Society, Executive Deputy Director of the Special Committee on Key Materials and Technologies for Electronic Components of the China Instruments and Functional Materials Society, and Chairperson of the Shenzhen Women’s Association for Science and Technology.

The IEEE Ferroelectrics Recognition Award is usually presented at the International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectrics (ISAF), sponsored by the IEEE. On July 23-27, 2023, the 32nd ISAF was held in Cleveland, USA.

Prof. Hong WANG was invited to attend the symposium to receive the award and presented a one-hour plenary talk entitled “High-Performance Dielectrics for Passive Integration and Energy Storage” at the opening ceremony.

The IEEE Ferroelectrics Recognition Award is a well-known award in the international ferroelectrics community, which recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions in ferroelectrics or related scientific fields.

Since its establishment in 1983, a total of 33 renowned scholars around the world have received this honor, while only one in this year.

The first recipient in 1983 was L.E. Cross, an academician of the American Academy of Engineering, and Xi YAO, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, received the award in 2002. Prof. WANG is the first Chinese female scientist and the second recipient from China to receive the award.
